Space Programmes and Products
 

Rheinmetall Italia has collaborated for many years with leading space agencies such as NASA, ESA, ASI, DRL and CONAE. In order to reinforce its position in the space technology market, both nationally and internationally, the company has established a new sector strategy based on the following criteria:
 

improvement in capacity/structures for system activity; technological updating of existing products; development of new activities/programmes at both national and international level; supplying services related to the use of space infrastructures; consolidation of the company’s activities in three areas, as illustrated below.

Systems and Micro-Satellites

Here the focus is on:

• programme management;
• the development of turnkey systems based on micro-satellites (approx.150kg) for earth observation and other scientific and telecommunications applications;
• the design, development, integration and verification of payloads to be used in micro-satellites, the International Space Station and space exploration programmes.

Electronic and Microwave Products and Modules

Here activity centres on the development and production of:

• radio frequency (RF) and digital subsystems;
• payloads and modules in the millimetre frequency band;
• equipment for telecommunications in the Ku, Ka and W frequency bands;
• automatic test equipment, electrical ground support equipment for subsystems/RF units;
• space-based radar sensors in the W frequency band.
  

Structures and Mechanisms

The prime focus here is on developing and producing:

• structures made of aluminium, titanium and composite material for antennae, solar panels, satellites and launchers;
• component parts, structures and high-precision mechanical sets for space station modules and payloads;
• mechanisms for antennae and solar panels;
• mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE);
• ground infrastructures for launch bases;
• fixed/mobile infrastructures for telecommunications to support multimedia services/applications.
