Armoured Bridgelaying Vehicle Biber |
 |
| In order to overcome natural and artificial obstacles on the battlefield without delay, mechanized armies need support vehicles like the Biber ("beaver") bridge-laying tank. In a matter of minutes, this tracked armoured vehicle can lay a robust two-section tank bridge over a 22-metre-wide river or similar terrain feature. Because the Biber’s two-man crew, consisting of the vehicle commander and the driver/operator, can carry out the entire process from inside the tank, they are well protected. Afterwards, the same (or another) bridge-laying tank can retrieve the four-metre wide bridge from either side of the bridged obstacle. |
